Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
i was wondering why almost all of my posts were shut down by PE? i agree that some of those contain nothing relevant to problem discussion, but my post @517 is what bothers me. would have you deleted it if i posted all of the solution rather than just "critical" part? without mentioning any names, many posts i have come across (considering some other problems) contained clear indications of idea reusability in most obvious of ways, calling upon striking resemblance to some other problems, etc. i made no such reference, and yet was discredited..guess i was right after all, that excerpt as i called it is going to be useful.
i would have preferred to contact PE directly, without making public display of myself, but as stated in "about" section, no way around it. some explanation would be fine, or you can just delete this as well

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
In my opinion the part you posted in #517 revealed nothing about how to solve the problem and was only posted to use PE as a repository ( as you wrote yourself.)
If you want to keep such things please post the part specific to the problem too.
There are other ways to build a repository imho.
As a consequence I reviewed your other posts and came to the conclusion that they were rather irrelevant too. So I decided to do a cleanup.

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
thank you kindly for answering on such a short notice. i''refrain from posting just for post's sake in future.
you are also right about repository part assuming that more responsible (in a lack of a better word) solvers are in question. me myself and i, deleted my c pluses to oblivion as soon as i made my post
but hey, isn't that what posters do, making themselves repositories?
if i have to stand in defense of my actions, i'd say that my post contained only that what apia's was missing, because i hate repeating myself or others for that matter.
anyway, no hard feelings

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
The only thing you posted in #517 was a routine to calculate binomial coefficents.
Apia rightfully omitted that part as members can be expected to know how to calculate those coefficients.
So that part wasn't interesting at all to be kept.
The purpose of the private fora should be wider than making repositories for oneself.

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
with all due respect, following your line of reasoning to the bottom, apia could continue with his righteousness and omit everything else, since everybody already know how to solve problem.
objectively speaking, the core of apia's method (and also mine) was exactly binomial acrobatics, since formula was rather trivial. and now we have situation where apia's post + my post = ving's post (or ZhouYuChen's for that matter), so with 3 equations and 2 unknowns i was the odd one out...
but, as there are other ways of solving this, which pushistik demonstrated (though i didn't catch any of it), need exists for more than one post; otherwise all post's after first one would be obsolete, since they convey the same message.
i guess this discussion was spoiler per se, so let it be.
i'm back at geoboards, tough one..but if i crack it there will be special post of gratitude towards PE team for coining it
regards

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
With all due respect, but you still seem to have missed what we consider important to post in a thread for a problem in the 500-range and what we consider rather trivial.
Your so called important function for b.c.'s I considered trivial in the absence of how it can be used in this problem.

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
I just went up a level and got the message "Nice work, jpaulson, you've just advanced to Level 16 .
171 members (0.03%) have made it this far." But https://projecteuler.net/problem_analysis claims that 133 people have solved 400 or more problems. Is there a reason for the inconsistency?

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
You have a keen eye, jpaulson. Thank you for reporting it. Your instincts were right, nicolas.patrois, it was related to private accounts. I had inadvertantly forgotten to not include private accounts in the script which counts how many people have reached a certain level. It has now been fixed and tested. It should report accurately at your next promotion. Good luck!

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
Hi, I just noticed a problem with the syntax highlighting for Rust on the solution forums. The highlighter mistakes lifetime annotations for char literals. This code should show the problem:
But it seems this part of the site does not use that highlighter. My post here does show the problem. I don't know what library Project Euler uses for highlighting - I just tested with Pygments, and it did not make the same mistake.
Code: Select all
fn main() {
let string: &'static str = "Hello, world!";
println!("{}", string);
}

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
I still see the ads popping up between the posts.. One ad is visible here
https://projecteuler.net/thread=202;page=2
'angel.white' post has ad in between.
I have a snapshot of this but cant yet figure how to post pics in this forum.

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
Thanks for reporting it. I suspect that the original image was related to the problem and the PE forum was faithfully displaying the image at the link. I can only imagine that his imageshack account got hacked.
By the way, to display an image both here and at the main forum you use the following.
It would appear like this:

To upload an image and add it to a post you are making, click the "Upload attachment" tab found below the "Save Preview Submit" buttons, find the file on your computer, and click "Add the file". After this, just below the message composition window you should now see "Place Inline" or "Delete File". If you place it inline then it will appear as an image when you make the post. The BBCode will say "attachment=?", but don't worry it will display if it is a proper image.
As an example, here's everyone's favourite image:

I can't see past page 2 of the thread for problem 250. I've tested on two browsers and computers, so I don't think the problem is at my end.

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
Thanks for letting me know. It should be fixed now.
[edit]I further investigated the problem to discover why it happened. I think I found the culprit and I've done a fix to attempt to ensure that it doesn't happen again. Please let me know if anyone spots it happen again. Thanks.[/edit]

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
When I post Python code in a problem thread, strings sometimes appear as all red, and sometimes in a variety of colours, as if being parsed as code. I haven't figured out the pattern. Obviously this isn't critical, but it would be nice to have it corrected.

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
Thread for people who have solved problem 405 is blank. I've asked my friend who has solved it as well and it's blank for him as well.
I just did a horrible hack for the problem and would like to know how it is solved elegantly
Edit: I checked an hour later and it now loads for me.
