email notification

Post by Robert_Gerbicz »

I haven't received email notification for problem 163. Is it working?! Previously I've gotten. I think nobody has gotten, because problem 163 solved by only 4 persons so far.

Sorry guys, you're absolutely right; [ignore]and it seems that an email was not sent for problem 161 too[/ignore]. I've just sent an email apologising and announcing its release.

Email message
Greetings!

Many apologies, but it seems that although a new problem was released at 1am on Saturday 13 October 2007 emails were not received. It was down to a small oversight and we're very sorry for the inconvenience.

Whilst I have your attention I would also mention that recently it was necessary make changes to the way posts are parsed in the Forum. Previously HTML could be used, but for security reasons HTML will now be stripped. It is still possible to use custom tags and I've introduced a few more to compensate: [url], , and [img]. A full list can be seen here: http://projecteuler.net/index.php?secti ... forum_tags.

The knock on effect of this change is obvious - a number of posts no longer viewed as the original poster intended - but I have done my best to edit as many posts as possible to correct them. Posts containing images and links should have been fixed, but I was unable to correct the posts for which users have spent time "beautifying" them with colours and formatting. Sorry! )c:

I hope you understand and the custom tags provide a suitable alternative.

With regards,
euler

However, for problem 161 email notification was sent by me and recieved by me.
It is known that some ISP's use spamblock lists that indicriminately block ranges of IP-adresses. Perhaps the cause for that missing notification is something like that.

Quite possibly. I've certainly had one or two previously which I sent and I never received myself. However, I've tried everything I can think of to solve the problem: my host providers have looked into it (outgoing to everyone), my own ISP have looked into it (incoming to me), I've even tried changing the headers in the emails sent, but it seems that once in a while some of us will miss out. The good news is that it seems to be happening with far less frequency now, and given the number of emails that are being sent to registered users we're probably scoring a pretty high hit rate.

Just in case:
Problem 164 will be accessible on Sat 20 Oct 2007 at 5.00 am [GMT].
RSS feed is updated, email is sent (and recieved by me).
So you can check whether your email notification works (take some time as sometimes email is underway a long time).
