MOTD

Can you please set up a message-of-the-day (MOTD) facility on projecteuler.net - either on the message forum or on the problems page. The MOTD could be used to announce the forthcoming arrival of new problems, to provide links to topics of interest (e.g. a pointer to linear programming techniques if you were secretly considering such a problem in future), to share a joke or ... nothing (just because it's called MOTD doesn't mean you have to update it daily).
Thanks.

To the left of the title of each forum is a circle. This circle changes color when there is a contribution in it you have not yet read. At the right side there is a small icon beside the name of the member that did this last post. If you click on this icon you can read the last past post in this that forum. Seems to me what you want.
on the main website, when viewing the forum, you can select viewing the newest first.....

No that's not what I want at all, hk. I would like to see a regular bulletin to let me know of forthcoming developments. We've already heard that several problems are in the works, but with no indication as to when those problems might appear. And the MOTD could be used for other things as well, to give it a sort of "newsletter" feel, if the MOTD administrators felt energetic enough to add that extra bit of warm-&-fuzzy to the community here.
Heck, I figure that the dev team owe us some postcards from their holidays.

Here's a specific suggestion: along with the existing "About", "Problems", "Scores", "Statistics", "Profile", "Forum", "Contact", "Logout" tabs at
http://projecteuler.net/ , add a new one: "MOTD". Just like any good computer system (i.e. Unix

) this will tell users when the system is next due to be "upgraded" (i.e. a problem added). That's the basic requirement. By all means add extra info if you feel like it (compsci joke of the day? ... maybe not).
Perhaps other readers of this thread could chip in: would a "MOTD" tab be a useful addition to
http://projecteuler.net/ or not?

Since you asked, ed_r, no, I don't think your suggestion has any greater value than a message from the Euler Team in a thread with the title MOTD.

@ed_r
Actually there is a MOTD facility already on the projecteuler.net website, but I've been so busy in the past __ months I've not been using it. It appears at the top of the Problems page table. You've probably seen the automatic message that appears there when a new problem is about to be released, but it is possible for me to add custom messages too; some of the older members might recall them, often used to announce a subtle change to problem wording, or a new facility that had been added. However, it requires admin access to the server scripts.
When I get time I'll create a facility for this to be updated by the rest of the team.

I hadn't seen that before, as I only joined after problem #159 had been issued. Sounds like it'll do what I want: thanks.
Welcome back at last, btw. Don't forget your pm's
