Server time out by several minutes?

Both the problems page and the forum tell me the current time is 49 minutes past the hour. Google and my computer clock both tell me the time is 41 minutes past the hour. Any reason why the server time seems to be 8 minutes fast?

Seriously, though, I've been wondering for some time, too. One would expect the server to synchronise with the network time every now and then.
