I've submitted a number of problems using http://projecteuler.net/index.php?section=contact. However I see that there is also a procedure for posting problems to the forum and then having whatever moderator who wants to pick them up from there for analysis and modification.

Which method do the moderators prefer to see used?

Preferably email them using the contact form as you did already.
The other way is a relic from the times we did not have the contact form.
