A possible highlighting/formatting error.
OK, this is not hugely important, but for those admins who like to have their JS sorted out it may be.
I found that the following page
http://projecteuler.net/thread=17&page=8
takes an inordinately long amount of time to load. Under Firefox 15.01 (Ubuntu 64) it actually greys out and eventually chucks a message:
If you stop the script, then the page carries on fine, unless, of course, you try to refresh it, in which case it repeats the palaver.
Even Chromium 18.0.1025.151 (Ubuntu 64) takes quite a while to sort it, gives no error though.
Firefox 19.0 under Windows XP is even worse, takes forever to spit out the error message.
Funnily enough IE explorer 8 under XP seems just fine, if a tad slow to load.
(Hope it's not something I've done

)

Sometimes when I go to edit a post in a solution forum, the resulting text area is blank. I usually just click back in my browser and try again to get it to bring up my post correctly, but I figured I'd point this out as a common issue.

@Marcus Andrews: Thanks for mentioning that. I've not seen it happen myself, but maybe some other members might have seen something similar. What browser are you using?
@alex914n: Thank you for reporting that problem. I was able to identify the post and fix the problem this time. However, I think I've also been able to figure out a way to detect a similar problem in future and automatically repair it, but it may detect false positives. Please let me know if you see "Text - Syntax highlighter disabled" appearing in other posts for no obvious reason.

Has anyone else experienced password reset issues?
Every time I try to update my password, I receive a warning that "an error occurred updating your information" and have to reset it again to log in the next time.
Yes, I've verified it's within the password parameters.
Any suggestions would be welcome... this has been an issue for several months.

That is an unusual error to get. It would normally occur if your session token is invalid or it has been reset during the account page being displayed and clicking the "Change Password" button; that is, your session has expired. Could you confirm you receive the error if you do the following all within a couple of minutes... ? Click "Account" on the navigation bar; type your new password in the "New Password" box; re-type your new password in the "Confirm Password" box; click the "Change Password" button.
The only other explanation would be you are running some type of software which is hiding/spoofing your identity? Do you ever encounter similar problems when trying to solve problems? That is, does it often complain that the CAPTCHA is incorrect even though you typed it correctly? Which browser are you using? Are you visiting from a public location? Are you trying to submit the form from some platform other than the proper webpage?

I use both Firefox and Chrome -- I've had the same issue occur with both browsers

@euler - I've done exactly as you described, in both Firefox and Chrome on OS X, even tried disablign all extensions. Same problem. I'll try Safari and post here if I have any luck... failing that, I'll try IE if I can find a Windows box, but I really hope that doesn't solve the issue.

Worked from Safari. I have no idea what the issue was in Chrome and Firefox.

This is most bizarre! If you were experiencing similar problems elsewhere: changing other aspects of your profile (on account page), submitting solutions, staying logged in, and the like, then I might have had an idea. But because it's only with changing password I am currently a little perplexed - and it seems that you're the first to report this problem with trying to change your password. And why it works in Safari but not in Chrome or Firefox just adds to mystery!?!

I had a weird issue recently when all project euler pages were refusing to load (the HTTP connection would just time out after a couple of minutes with no data transferred). I deleted my projecteuler.net cookies and logged in again, and now everything seems to be fine. Just thought I should mention it.

I just logged in to PE, and it told me the log in was successful. I was able to confirm this by viewing my progress in a separate tab. And yet, I got this message:
There seems to be a temporary problem with the server. Please try again later.
If this problem persists, please report it at
http://projecteuler.chat.
The URL was
http://projecteuler.net/problems. I logged out and back in, but didn't not get the message again, so I'm not sure if there actually is an issue, but I figured I should mention it.

@kini: It could be that the server was having a bad moment and by the most incredible coincidence clearing the cookies gave it enough time to sort itself out again. Of course you may have stumbled on a bug so I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced a similar issue where clearing the cookies was necessary to access the website.
@matthewden: That error is generate when it is not possible to access the cached file for the problems table data. Did the error appear once or was it necessary to logout and login again for it to go away?
As always, thanks for reporting bugs as they might highlight similar issues which have been affecting members but they didn't think it was worth reporting. If anyone else has suffered any of the above mentioned problems then please let me know.

Uh... The error only appeared once. It didn't occur to me to try loading anything else, so I just hit logout and then logged back in again. After logging back in, the message did not reappear.
Since you say this happens when it can't get to the cache, I should also mention that I did clear my cache between the last time I was on the site and now, so that's probably what happened.
Thanks!

Currently the bottom post on thread 1 has the timestamp:
08 Apr 2013 02:30 pm
I have a setting in the User profile putting me in UTC-4; the top of the site shows:
Logged in as jake223

Is this just not worth the calculation/checking the user time zone whenever displaying a forum, or is this a bug?

Next week, problem 425 will (probably) be published. This means that you'll officially have a level 16.
The images for the levels are stored on the website in the /images/levels folder, each of which with the name level_x.png (where x is the level). However, unlike at previous "new level creation events" when the image was uploaded to the source a few days or even weeks ahead, now there is no level_16.png.
I just wanted to remind you to upload that image BEFORE publishing problem 425. Otherwise, a lot of things will break and then blow up, leaving euler with tears in his eyes...
Just sayin' ...
BTW, a few days ago (15th April) was Leonhard Euler's birthday... you could've made something special (like publishing a special secret problem or... something)... Maybe next year...

You are a keen observer! Indeed I have previously uploaded the images about a week before the new level becomes live. Some things remain constant.

I realized that the only PDFs on the domain projecteuler.net are the overviews which explain how to do the problems. unfortunately, they are public on the web, hidden only by the long hash in their URL. So, any that have been linked to by another website will show up if you google 'site:projecteuler.net filetype:pdf'. Someone should probably modify robots.txt so google can't list them.
